Billy spent more than 30 years in the chemical industry. Working globally for Ciba and BASF he developed an understanding of how companies fail to solve problems and what tools and techniques can be used to improve their success rate. These tools have been applied successfully across a wide range of industries (Chemical, Engineering, Water Treatment, Construction, Electronics, Oil, and Gas). Billy now has a consultancy called Perth Innovation. As the name suggests, it is based in Perth (Scotland) and delivers consultancy and training on all aspects of Innovation from identifying improvement opportunities to the successful completion of projects to capitalize on those opportunities.
About the training
#Creative Problem-Solving #Problem-Solving #thinking skills #decision making #problem analysis #focus
This series of webinars is based on a framework for creative problem-solving that has been developed over a period of 20 years. The webinars use a gardening analogy (called The Concept Garden – for details see below) to clarify the problem-solving process. Participants in the workshop are introduced to the Concept Garden Framework, some important concepts, and thinking tools and techniques that help to ensure that effective solutions are found and prepared for implementation.
Outcome: Participants will learn the main elements of creative problem-solving and gain working experience of key tools. After the webinar, participants will be familiar with tools that help to analyse a problem, identify possible solutions and build these into detailed concepts which can be brought forward as proposed projects. Using an interactive approach, the participants will be given an opportunity to work with the tools and techniques to develop their problem-solving capabilities.
Duration: Five webinars of an hour to an hour and a half each. These can be run on five consecutive days, one day a week for five weeks, or whatever schedule suits you.
Timing: Dates and times will be agreed with the client.
Documentation: Participants will be sent handouts after each webinar and a full text “manual”, in pdf format, will be sent at the end of the series.
Follow-up: It is proposed that a short (1 to 2 hour) debrief session is held about 3 to 6 months after the final day of the workshop, to allow the participants to give feedback on how effective the training has been.
Participants will learn a variety of thinking tools to enhance their problem-solving capabilities.
The tools and skills learned will allow the participants to develop more effective and robust solutions to problems
Enhancing their thinking skills will give the participants more confidence, not just in problem-solving, but also in their day to day work.
Using the thinking tools will allow participants to develop robust solutions which will remove the need to keep solving the same problem over and over.
